Sportscaster Jessie Garcia Takes Packers Fans Behind the Scenes

As one of the first female sportscasters in the Midwest, Jessie Garcia provides her personal, and oftentimes hilarious, insight on her career reporting on the Green Bay Packers, including behind-the-scenes moments with the team in the Wisconsin Historical Society Press book “My Life with the Green & Gold: Tales from 20 Years of Sportscasting” (Paperback: $18.95, ISBN: 978-0-87020-619-1).

The veteran sportscaster brings fans to the sidelines at Lambeau Field, inside the locker room, aboard the Packers bus, and into the host’s chair at The Mike McCarthy Show. The book also features stories about other teams and athletes she’s covered, from the Badgers and Brewers, to Wisconsin Olympians.

A ‘SPORTS MOM-OIR’

Garcia’s behind-the-scene details spring from her perspective as a female journalist and a working mom who juggled the demands of family life with a demanding NFL schedule. Not many parents can say they’ve changed their child’s diaper in the tunnel at Lambeau Field, but Jessie Garcia can.

The book is a “sports momoir,” notes Kate Bast, editor-in-chief of Brava Magazine, in her review of the book. Garcia “captures that relentlessly imperfect balance we all seek: striving to deliver in a career that fuels your talents and feeds your soul, while playing the biggest game of all-life with kids.”

Packers radio analyst and TV sportscaster Larry McCarren adds that the book is also the story of a top-notch sports professional. “This book may be about a woman in sportscasting, but it’s also about a damn good sportscaster, period.”

An e-book version of “My Life with the Green & Gold” is also available.
